Eugene Richards is a photographer, filmmaker and writer born in Dorchester, Massachusetts in 1944. After graduating from Northeastern University with an english degree, Eugene studied photo and help found a social service organization. Photographs taken during the years in which Richards' Newspaper was founded- "Many Voices" which reported on black political action including the KKK- were published in his first monograph “Few Comforts Or Surprises: The Arkansas Delta". Richards returned to his hometown and photographed the changed, racially diverse neighborhood. He worked as a freelance magazine photographer after joining magnum photos in 1978. Richards also directed and shot a film called "Cocaine true, cocaine blue". Some of Richards' best writing pieces include "Dorchester Days", "Exploding Into Life"- which won Nikon's Book Of The Year Award-“Below The Line: Living Poor in America”- which named Eugene Richards the photojournalist of the year-"The Knife & Gun Club”- awarded The Award of Excellence- and "Cocaine True, Cocaine Blue" which received the Kraszna-Krausz Award For Photographic Innovation In Books.
