I was inspired by this piece of Eugene Richards' work. In this picture, the male figure is seen looking at a syringe in the kitchen while a female figure watches him. Eugene Richards photographed for many books, including his most popular called "Cocaine True, Cocaine Blue". In this book, Eugene goes back to his home town and photographs his since changed neighborhood. In many of the photos, drugs are being used as well as violence. I was inspired by this collection of photos and more specifically this photo because of the area I live in. Since I live so close to Baltimore, Maryland, I frequently visit the city. In the bad parts of the city, most of the time, you are able to smell marijuana being used. You are also able to notice empty syringes littering the streets. The opioid epidemic is also taking place at this time and is mostly centered around Baltimore.
